Summer 1966, on the island of Stromboli, three young Germans take part in archaeological excavations led by the French writer and socialite Donnadieu de Vorgues. Within this small European microcosm, they encounter Armin Wegner, living in exile on the island. He befriends Liselotte, a member of the team, and gradually reveals his past to her.
Wegner was one of the most important witnesses to the Armenian Genocide. A photographer, he produced images that remain among the very few visual documents capable of confirming the reality of the genocide.
